Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Zwinger Dresden

New paths for old masters

The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister art gallery in the Dresden Zwinger is an especially historic place – and a site that places particularly high demands on its wayfinding system: this should blend into the perfect architecture without historicizing, manifesting a language of its own without impacting overly on the heritage-listed building. The response is a signage system that references the architecture through its use of material and colour, anchoring the building in the present with a new, modern font. An exciting contrast that addresses the large number of (international) visitors and guides them adeptly through the building.
